Photo Selection Guide
When selecting your reference photos, try to consider the following:
Lighting - your subject will look much better in natural light and you may want to have softer lighting to avoid harsh shadows.
Colours - do the colours in the image reflect the colours that you want to be shown? Please also bear in mind that our art style is quite bright, so colours may appear brighter - see our galleries to give you an idea of this.
Visible details - is the image sharp enough for us to render details accurately? This is a key element that makes our work stand out - on animals it may be fur or feather details and with plants there are minute veins on leaves and petals, hairs on stems and subtly reflected colours on leaves with a sheen.
Camera distance - is the subject close enough to make out in detail?
Adding interest - if you have the opportunity to, try to take photos from different angles that capture a bit of the character of your subject.
Limited photos - if you are commissioning a pet portrait or floral display where you only have a small number of photos, please donโt worry, if you email the photos to us, we will work with you to achieve the best possible result.
Multiple subjects - if you have an idea to include, for example, multiple pets or pets with flowers but you donโt have a photo of these subjects together, this is not a problem! We love to help your vision come to life and with the right selection of photos we can put them all together for you.
